Citizens Abroad
As a result of labor agreements with various countries in Europe, a Turkish community has been formed outside the homeland with the migrations that started in the 1960s. Today, the fact that our citizens abroad, whose number has reached approximately 7 million, have become the fundamental elements of these societies by obtaining the citizenship of the countries they live in has created the need for state support for our citizens.
While the needs have increased and changed their requirements over time, especially in the last 11 years, significant progress has been made in the services provided to our citizens abroad. The Department of Citizens Abroad, which operates with the mission of standing by our citizens living abroad and maintaining strong legal, social and economic ties with Türkiye both in the countries where they live and in Türkiye, and maintaining the ties of our diaspora with the homeland at the highest level, is responsible for the realization of many new projects and regulations every year and endeavors to introduce existing practices to our citizens.
The Department of Citizens Abroad provides ongoing services to our citizens living in many parts of the world, especially in Europe. Various activities are carried out in line with the objectives and thematic needs determined in order to identify the social, cultural, legal, economic and political needs and demands of our citizens and to implement appropriate policies and strategies for these needs. It is important for the new generation of children and young people to preserve their mother tongue and foreign language skills, to benefit from quality education opportunities, to receive an education that is competitive in the academic field and to blend into society, both in terms of the country they live in and their relations with their homeland. Raising young people who are well-equipped in terms of education will not only increase the employment rates of our citizens abroad, but will also contribute to their becoming more successful in social life.
In this regard, the Department of Citizens Abroad carries out activities to support the education of our children and young people abroad, to provide guidance to their families, to improve their language skills, to increase their professional and personal competencies by encouraging the academic development of students attending higher education and supports the activities to be carried out in this regard.
