Symposium on North Caucasian Languages Held

Organized on the occasion of “Türkiye and North Caucasus Cultural Meetings” by the Dagestani Association of Education, Culture, and Solidarity, the Symposium on North Caucasian Languages was hosted by Gazi University with the assistance of the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB).

The event was attended by YTB Vice President Murat Kazancı, Gazi University Vice President Prof. Yücel Gelişli, Dagestan Deputy and Olympic-World-European Champion Hacı Murat Magomedov, Dean of the Faculty of Sports Sciences Prof. Serdar Eler, the Head of the United Federation of Caucasus Associations Fatin Dağçınar, and the Head of Dagestani Association of Education, Culture, and Solidarity Yaşar Öz and many other guests.


Taking the floor during the event, YTB Vice President Murat Kazancı emphasized that the information presented at the symposium was important for the people of the North Caucasus and wished the event to be beneficial for all. Mr. Kazancı noted that cultural transmission is achieved through language and that language is the key tool for individual and social communication. Mr. Kazancı concluded his remarks, thanking everyone for their inputs for the organization of the event.

 

Vice President of Gazi University Prof. Yücel Gelişli said that languages are important as they echo our shared history and culture, and that the event offers a unique opportunity to understand each other better and boost our shared values.

 

Mr. Gelişli also said that the symposium is intended to further strengthen the profound historical and cultural ties between Türkiye and the North Caucasus communities and added: “I hope that the presentations and discussions to be held during this two-day symposium will offer new perspectives to both the scientific community and our societies and help us better understand our shared values.”

Fatin Dağçınar, the Head of the United Federation of Caucasus Associations, also stated in his address that language is the key element that makes a nation. Dağçınar emphasized that nations must safeguard their languages.

 The Head of Dagestani Association of Education, Culture, and Solidarity Yaşar Öz remarked that they would like to improve the relations between Türkiye and the people of the North Caucasus. Öz, who underlined that the people of the North Caucasus are one of the most ancient peoples in the world, thanked each and every one of those who added to the organization of the event.

 

Dagestan Deputy and Olympic-World-European Champion Haji Murat Magomedov noted that it is important for people to speak their native language and emphasized that there are scores of languages spoken in Dagestan.

The inaugural addresses were followed by the start of the symposium sessions. The sessions were concluded with family photos following the Q&A sessions.
